About the event

The 1995 film follows twenty-four hours in the lives of three friends living in the volatile Paris banlieues, as riots break out following the death of a man at the hands of French police. Main characters Vinz, Said and Hubert, all coming from different ethnic backgrounds, have grown up in the same dangerous suburb where deep-rooted diversity coupled with a racist police force have raised tensions to breaking point.

While Asian Dub Foundation started out as a London musical project aimed at teaching Asian children the fundamentals of music technology, they quickly gained recognition as a stand-out live act, gaining widespread critical acclaim for their early studio releases. As time went on, ADF focused more on reworking film soundtracks, scoring the dub-punk opera Gaddafi: A Living Myth and putting their own spin on George Lucas’ cult sci-fi classic THX1138.

Created in 2001, Asian Dub Foundation’s acclaimed audio-visual accompaniment to La Haine has been performed worldwide, and is making a welcome return to the stage in 2018. The unique live show brings together a screening of the iconic film and a reimagined soundtrack by the accomplished ADF, leading audiences through a powerful journey into the intense world of the 1990’s Parisian suburbs.
